The Resilient, Intelligent, Sustainable & Engineered (RISE) Infrastructure Materials Laboratory at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking outstanding candidates for two open Ph.D. student positions. The accepted candidates will start in the Spring or Fall of 2022. Students with the following backgrounds are encouraged to apply: civil engineering, structural engineering, chemical engineering, environmental science/engineering, materials science, ceramic engineering, and mechanics. Students with a relevant M.S. degree and research experience are preferred.
The students are expected to work on one or multiple of following topics:
Multi-scale material design, modeling, and characterization
Thermodynamics and geochemistry
Multifunctional fiber-reinforced cementitious/ceramic composites
Intelligent infrastructure system
System optimization and life cycle assessment
Machine learning and additive manufacturing
Large-scale structural design and testing
